Portable Tabletop MAME Cabinet (Control Panels I)

The next step is to create the control panels that hold the joysticks and pushbuttons. We need three of them, each cut from the sturdier ½ inch MDF wood:
•    The wide control panel is 17 inches by 5 ½ inches.
•    The end control panels are 13 ½ inches by 5 ½ inches.

Note that each of these will “overhang” the edge of the casing a little. If you don't want to do this, cut the panels back to a height of 5 inches instead of 5.5 inches. If you don't like how tall the panels are (and my wife and I debated on this for some time, citing aesthetics vs. comfort), cut the housing pieces and the control panels to a width of 4 inches instead of 5 (with 4.5 inches on the control panels for overhang instead of 5.5 inches.)

Here is a close-up of the wider panel.

Here is one of the end control panels.

And the other end control panel.

Here are the control panels laying on top of the until housing. The Compaq monitor and the bottom of the main unit casing have been removed.
Finally, if you wish, round the bottom corners of each of the control panels with a sander to give the MAME cabinet a more professional look.
